Welcome to the Second Sunday in Advent 2011:
Where are the prophetic voices in our time? John the Baptist was a very conspicuous figure on the Palestinian landscape with unusual diet and attire. He drew attention to himself, because he had a message for a desperate world. We also have a message. What are we doing to deliver it? Like St. John the Baptist, we have a mission of preparing the way of the Lord. Are we a voice crying in the wilderness? There is plenty of barren wilderness all around us. The wilderness for some of us has asphalt streets and concrete sidewalks. It may be heavily populated with people who are empty and restless; filled with anxiety because of the uncertainty of what lies just ahead for them on the next horizon. What will the future bring for them, and will they be ready for whatever eventuates? We live in a world permeated by bad news. We are charged with the task of preparing the way for Good News found in the Incarnation of Jesus Christ. Come and worship with us this Sunday, as we prepare the way for our Lord.
